Terrains of Everest Base Camp Trek

Ninety-two kilometers is the total distance covered throughout the trek to Everest Base Camp. The walk commences with breakfast at about 8:00-8:30 am each day. And in high altitude, there is a high chance that trek starts earlier to catch the best view of mountains and their settings. We can stop to catch our breath, take some snaps, have tea, and enjoy the hike. Trekking pace is standard, usually slow to catch with altitude above the mountains. Our nicely designed itinerary have enough acclimatization and involves two days to rest on ascending day of the trek. The initial days of the hike are short-distance hiking through a few hills but with no rush. As we gain more height, the terrain is even and consistent. Most of the trekking in a day finishes by early to mid-afternoon.

Terrain for Everest Base Camp is well shaped and is a defined path. The last section of the trek is on glacial moraines covered in rocks and is easy with no technical equipment. There are abrupt drops requiring ropes in this trek, but a few high footbridges are there to challenge you a bit. You find these footbridges that cross Dudh Koshi River many times below the Namche Bazaar. Nicely engineered and metal walkway has replaced wooden made bridge making your trek safer and stable. Most importantly, nice meal & comfortable sleep during your hike is of utmost necessity.

Accommodation and Meals

We accommodate you in lodges mostly of Sherpa families during Raconteur Adventure’s Everest Base Camp Trek. If you prefer a camp trek to Everest, then we offer that too. Lodges in these mountainous regions have a central dining area with a large stove, making you feel warm. Bedrooms have no heating option leaving you no choice but use duvets and blankets. So, carrying a sleeping bag might be an option. The room has two beds with mattresses, pillows and a blanket. We do recommend you take a pillowcase too.

These lodges have showers heated by gas and have commode toilets, and some have squat toilets too.

In the food department, well Everest region doesn’t disappoint. You can satisfy your palette with a mixture of Nepali/Sherpa and western food recipes. If you miss that delicious burgers and chips, then no worries as you can buy them too. And the standard meal during the trek is Dal, Bhat and  Tarkari, which is Nepali food eaten by mixing boiled/steamed rice(bhat) with lentils(dal) and veggies(tarkari). Moreover, you can find it all from beer, pastries, pizza and other deep/stir-fried foods. Similarly, there are plenty of shops that sell chocolates and sweets, snacks and drinks. Please avoid any unhealthy food, follow simple diet rules, and be consistent with them. Fitness is the necessity to conquer these challenging treks.

Trekking to EBC combines long day treks and high altitudes with a maximum height of 5643m above sea level. There are no rock climbing or mountaineering requiring equipment. During the tour, some hills are steeper and can feel never-ending. And at the last section of Everest Base Camp, the Khumbu glacier lies and is slippery with ice and lost rock, but poles are there for your rescue.

How Difficult is a trek to Everest Base Camp?

In this trek to Everest Base Camp, trekking wise, nothing is tedious, but ever-changing mountain weather and high altitude can make this trek more difficult. So, we encourage you to go through a thorough health check to ensure that your body can convert oxygen efficiently in high altitudes. Our advice would be to do some short hikes in your homeland before starting a feast of trekking to EBC. Hit gyms, walk and let the thighs feel the burn. As there are plenty of uphill treks, your muscle memory will benefit. As we gain more altitude, the pace slows naturally and exhaustion heats. So, please follow safe walking distance, drink and sleep well and if you are not feeling well, discontinue; we are there to help you.

What is Everest Base Camp Trek?

Trekking to Everest Base Camp is one of the most popular treks globally. Thousands of tourists visit Nepal each year to hike to the Everest base camp. Trekking to the world's highest peak base camp, Mt. Everest, is known as Everest Base Camp Trekking. In 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa embarked on this journey for the first time. It is one of Nepal's most picturesque and well-known journeys.

What is the location of Everest Base Camp?

The Everest Base Camp is located in Nepal's SoluKhumbu area. Along with Mt. Everest, Sagarmatha National Park is a UNESCO world heritage site. This region is also recognised for its distinct Sherpa cultures. It has eight municipalities, one of which is urban, and the other seven are rural. This region is home to various caste groups, including Bahrain, Chhetries, and Sherpas.

What is Everest Base Camp's elevation?

The Everest base camp is located at 5380 meters (17600 feet) above sea level.

When is the best time to go to Everest Base Camp for a trek?

The optimum time to trek to Everest Base Camp is in the spring, from March to May, or in the autumn, from September to December, when the weather is pleasant, and the vistas are spectacular. Even though the temperature drops below zero in December, we can still enjoy the breathtaking scenery. However, you should dress appropriately for the possibility of icy conditions. October is traditionally the most OK month for hiking because the weather is mild, and the vistas are spectacular.

What will be the typical party size for the Everest Base Camp trek?

We usually plan trekking trips for groups of 2-16 individuals. We can also adjust the size of the group based on your requirements. Our group is made up of folks from all over the world.

What kind of lodging will you give for the trek?

In Kathmandu, we will stay in a 3-star hotel, and on our walk, we will stay in lodges and guest homes. Our lodging will be on a twin-share basis. You will be charged an additional cost if you desire a single supplement. All of our places in Kathmandu will have connected bathrooms; however, most of the teahouses on our walk will have shared bathrooms. Our team will do all possible to assist you.

What are the trek's main highlights?

Everest Base Camp provides you with a plethora of breathtaking vistas. Everest Base Camp is a slice of heaven far above the clouds. Your soul is filled with peace and pleasant energy when you get there. The highest viewpoint on earth, Kalapatthar, Tengboche Monastery, Mount Everest, Mount Pumori, Mount Lhotse, and other highest mountains, as well as wildlife, Khumbu region agriculture, and most importantly, the loving and friendly Sherpas with their warm hospitality are the major highlights of Everest base camp.

Is it necessary for me to have prior trekking experience in order to trek to Everest Base Camp?

You can trek to Everest Base Camp if you have trekking experience anywhere in the world. No prior experience is required. You can easily travel to the base camp if you can walk for 6-7 hours every day. It is preferable to begin eating energy-boosting foods and exercising a month before the expedition. All you need is a strong will to succeed and the ability to overcome obstacles.

What is included in the trek's meals?

During the walk, all meals are supplied. Breakfast and dinner will be provided during our stay at the following location, while lunch will be provided while our trails. We'll also give tea and coffee in the area where we'll be resting. We can obtain a range of Nepali and continental dishes in lower heights. Still, in higher elevations, we may not be able to get continental dishes offered authentic Nepali cuisines.

Who will transport my belongings?

If you travel with us, you will not have to worry about transporting your belongings. All of your belongings will be carried by our porter. We will send you a porter that can handle between 15 and 25 kilograms.

Is it necessary for me to purchase travel insurance?

All of our clients who travel with us must purchase travel insurance. Because the Nepalese Insurance Company does not provide travel insurance for foreigners, we advise you to bring the necessary legal documents when visiting Nepal. Your travel insurance should cover theft, injury, delay, inconveniences, and any other losses, and the company should not be held liable for your loss.

Will my phones and cameras be able to be charged?

Some lodges and trekking homes offer you the opportunity to charge your phones and cameras for a modest cost. However, because certain places may have power outages, we recommend bringing extra batteries.

Is there an age limit for the Everest Base Camp trek?

The hike to Everest Base Camp has no age restrictions. You can easily hike to Everest Base Camp if your physical condition is good and you can walk for multiple hours over several days. It is preferable if you begin training for the walk a few months ahead of time by engaging in workouts such as running, skipping, and jogging, as well as eating healthy and energy-boosting foods. We also recommend that you check your doctor before embarking on the expedition.

Is it possible for a domestic flight to be canceled or delayed?

Lukla's weather forecast is impossible to anticipate. As a result of inclement weather, flights may be delayed for several days. If it interferes with your journey in the outset, you are free to choose from a variety of different options. If an emergency arises during the trip, we will seek the best solution for you, taking into account the needs of the entire group.

Will I be able to take a shower along the way?

Showers are available at guest homes and lodges. They have both gas and sun heating. However, firewood is used to boil water in other areas, and buckets are used as showers.

Will I be able to connect with my friends and family while on the trek?

You will be able to speak with your family and friends. You may buy local sim cards from companies like NTC and NCELL and use them to communicate and access the internet. Only a few of the places may have network issues. Wi-Fi is available in several of the lodges.

Is a guide required?

Although having a guide is not required, travelling alone at higher heights may not be safe. As a result, we advise you to hire a guide and a porter. You will have fewer chances of getting lost and learn more about the places if you do so. If you become ill or wounded during the walk, the guide will assist you in getting to safety.

Is tipping required?

Tipping is a form of expression that expresses gratitude and appreciation. In Nepal, however, it is not required. Your tiny gesture of appreciation to our guides, porters, drivers, and other employees will boost their morale.

How likely are you to get lost?

There is an extremely slim possibility of getting lost if you go with our guide. However, if you plan to travel alone, you may miss the route. There are numerous perplexing difficulties in which we must attentively follow our leader.

Will there be ATMs available along the trek?

In Lukla and Namche Bazaar, ATMs are available. However, we recommend that you bring sufficient cash with you because the machines might be unreliable at times.

Is it necessary for me to carry my own hiking equipment?

In Kathmandu, you may hire trekking equipment as well. However, we believe that using our instruments is more convenient. As a result, we recommend bringing your instruments, if feasible, or acquiring them in Nepal.

What documents and papers are necessary for the Everest Base Camp trek?

To trek to Everest Base Camp, you will need a health certificate, travel insurance, and PP size pictures in order to obtain trekking permits such as TIMS (trekking information management system).
