Accommodation

Everest trekking route got the shape you and I see today was developed a century ago. These exact routes shares some get history with pioneer trekkers and climbers. During Everest Base Camp Trek, thousands of tourists share limited space in different lodges/teahouses along the route. Basic tea house in old times has changed to semi-luxury properties, thus delivering more amenities to all travellers coming for Everest.

Rooms on most trekking routes in Nepal have two single beds, are not heated, and come with non-attached bathrooms. However, spaces are facilitated with excellent quality mattresses and warm blankets. It is always nice to carry extra sleeping bags, which is a personal choice, as you won’t need one during the trek. The hotel/Lodge owner will give you an extra warm blanket. The highlighting part of all these lodges or tea houses is the standard dining room, heated with different fires creating local materials. Trekkers mainly use this room to socialise with fellow trekkers, eat meals, and warm themselves up.

Bathroom, on the other hand is shared and finding private bathrooms on these rough terrains and high altitude is scarce. If you feel like taking a hot shower, it will cost some extra. Additional charges incur if you want to refill the bottle with hot water. Wi-Fi facility is here in Everest, which costs an extra $1 to $4. Unlike other trekking regions of Nepal, charging is primarily free. Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, the Raconteur Adventure team welcomes you at the airport and accommodates you in three to five-star category hotels in Kathmandu.

Food during Everest View Trek, 07 Days

Tea house during your Everest View Trek of Raconteur Adventure provides an excellent selection of good food for trekkers and climbers. The food served at your table is hygienic and healthy. Breakfast, lunch and dinner menu is available and has western international food. The everyday staple food of Nepal, the Dal, Bhat & Tarkari (Steamed Rice, Pulse Soup and Curries, both veg and non-veg, is available everywhere. But, the menu covers Indian and even continental dishes. Please try Tibetan bread/Chapati for breakfast. There is a wide range of choices available in hot soups as well. Pancakes, muesli, porridge, and omelettes are some typical food you see for breakfast in the Himalayas.

Dal, Bhat, as mentioned before, should be your go-to choice for lunch. The energy Dal Bhat provides helps in conquering challenging trekking trails. Dal Bhat set comprises boiled/steamed rice, Pulse Soup, Mix veggies/non-veggies curry and pickles. Lunch, Dinner is served usually in a buffet system. For all option seekers in their food menu, you won’t get disappointed either, as fried rice, pasta, and pizza are available to be served to you. During dinner time, the same lunch menu comes into play.

In the liquid department, you see options available. Tea, Coffee, Ginger, Honey, Lemon, and a good choice of alcoholic beverages, including beer, local wine, rum, and other non-alcoholic drinks, are readily available at higher costs due to increased overheads. On the other hand, Namche is facilitated by bakeries and Irish Pubs. Luxury restaurants like Namche are nowhere to be found during your trekking journey to Everest.

Weather and Climate

Summer

The summer months of Nepal are June, July, and August. Summer also implies monsoon in this part of the world. Almost 20 days in June and July are rainy, with more than 100cm of rainfall. However, most rain falls in the evenings and at night, and the mountains are beautiful during the day. It’s the hottest month of the year, and you can hike in only a few layers. In the summer, the temperature in Namche reaches about 20 degrees Celsius.

Autumn

After August, the cloud is no longer visible as November approaches; the temperature decreases around 12 degrees Celsius in the Everest area. The sky remains evident throughout the day, allowing for panoramic views of the mountains. Even at night, Everest may be seen gleaming. Nepalese celebrations such as Dashain, Tihar, and Chhat occur around this season. As a result, everything is alive and well.

Winter

If you were to go to Everest Base Camp or Gokyo in the winter, we would advise against it. On the other hand, our Everest View Trek map roams around Namche Bazaar. The winters in this region are rarely snowy, and the days are similarly mild; Everest temperatures in the afternoon are around 5 degrees Celsius in December and January. The nights are a touch chilly but not too bad. The highest elevations are entirely blanketed in snow, making the mountains appear at their finest. The route is also peaceful because the number of tourists is limited. Winter is an excellent season to go on an Everest View Trek in Nepal.

Spring

It’s the season of sunshine, flowers, and unobstructed views. In April, though, there may be some rain and clouds. Trekking in May, just after the winter, is delightful. The temperature is around 15 degrees Celsius, and the Rhododendrons add to the overall beauty of the scene.

Best Season to do Everest View Trek

The best season is not entirely applicable for Everest trekking as every season has its beauty and newness. The peak season is autumn, full of climbers and trekkers as the weather is stable. On the other hand, Spring rewards richness with foreground hills full of blooming rhododendron. During the off-season of monsoon and winter, fewer tourists explore the area, creating a relaxed environment to relish mother nature’s unmatched beauty.

However, the season of Monsoon(July – August) and Winter(January- February) is not the first choice for Everest view Trek as the weather gets unpredictable and extreme. Everest View Point Trek is mostly wholesome during wintertime.

Required Permits and Checkpoints

You require some permits to indulge in the beauty of Everest freely. Everest Trek permits from TAAN (Trekking Agency Association of Nepal) Nepal Tourism Board is necessary. Similarly, the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit can be acquired from their office at Pradashani Marg, Kathmandu.

The Sagarmatha National Park permit is USD 30 + 13% VAT for foreigners. The cost is Rs 1,500 for those from the SAARC nations, while it is free for Nepalese. The fee for entering a National Park goes toward wildlife management. You’ll also need to get a Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit. For the time being, foreigners may obtain this permit for just $20.

The SAARC nation’s citizens pay a lower price. This new authorisation has replaced the TIMS card. The Everest Regular Area Permit keeps track of tourists in the Khumbu region and can assist you in an emergency. Difficulty and Fitness, Everest View Point Trek

Everest View Point Trek doesn’t demand a high level of physical fitness. If you have good physical and mental health, you can easily do this trek. 07 days Everest View trek can be quickly done without previous high–altitude trek experience. And, you won’t be needing additional gears as well.

Before you do or join the Everest viewpoint trek itinerary, you should do some short hikes in your homeland Hiking to 4000m is all good if possible to well prepare your body for high altitude. Cycling, running and swimming are exercises to boost overall stamina for the trek ahead. The highest point of the tour is 3880 meters.

In that attitude of 3880m, cases of altitude sickness are zero but keep in mind that it is your body that needs to adapt to higher elevations. So, prepare well your body to eradicate any symptoms of altitude sickness and other physical difficulties. Please do make sure to rest; the walk is at a slow pace and hydrating your body with purified water. Alcoholic consumption during the trek is not advisable.

Terrains of Everest Base Camp Trek

Ninety-two kilometers is the total distance covered throughout the trek to Everest Base Camp. The walk commences with breakfast at about 8:00-8:30 am each day. And in high altitude, there is a high chance that trek starts earlier to catch the best view of mountains and their settings. We can stop to catch our breath, take some snaps, have tea, and enjoy the hike. Trekking pace is standard, usually slow to catch with altitude above the mountains. Our nicely designed itinerary have enough acclimatization and involves two days to rest on ascending day of the trek. The initial days of the hike are short-distance hiking through a few hills but with no rush. As we gain more height, the terrain is even and consistent. Most of the trekking in a day finishes by early to mid-afternoon.

Terrain for Everest Base Camp is well shaped and is a defined path. The last section of the trek is on glacial moraines covered in rocks and is easy with no technical equipment. There are abrupt drops requiring ropes in this trek, but a few high footbridges are there to challenge you a bit. You find these footbridges that cross Dudh Koshi River many times below the Namche Bazaar. Nicely engineered and metal walkway has replaced wooden made bridge making your trek safer and stable. Most importantly, nice meal & comfortable sleep during your hike is of utmost necessity.

Accommodation and Meals

We accommodate you in lodges mostly of Sherpa families during Raconteur Adventure’s Everest Base Camp Trek. If you prefer a camp trek to Everest, then we offer that too. Lodges in these mountainous regions have a central dining area with a large stove, making you feel warm. Bedrooms have no heating option leaving you no choice but use duvets and blankets. So, carrying a sleeping bag might be an option. The room has two beds with mattresses, pillows and a blanket. We do recommend you take a pillowcase too.

These lodges have showers heated by gas and have commode toilets, and some have squat toilets too.

In the food department, well Everest region doesn’t disappoint. You can satisfy your palette with a mixture of Nepali/Sherpa and western food recipes. If you miss that delicious burgers and chips, then no worries as you can buy them too. And the standard meal during the trek is Dal, Bhat and  Tarkari, which is Nepali food eaten by mixing boiled/steamed rice(bhat) with lentils(dal) and veggies(tarkari). Moreover, you can find it all from beer, pastries, pizza and other deep/stir-fried foods. Similarly, there are plenty of shops that sell chocolates and sweets, snacks and drinks. Please avoid any unhealthy food, follow simple diet rules, and be consistent with them. Fitness is the necessity to conquer these challenging treks.

Trekking to EBC combines long day treks and high altitudes with a maximum height of 5643m above sea level. There are no rock climbing or mountaineering requiring equipment. During the tour, some hills are steeper and can feel never-ending. And at the last section of Everest Base Camp, the Khumbu glacier lies and is slippery with ice and lost rock, but poles are there for your rescue.

How Difficult is a trek to Everest Base Camp?

In this trek to Everest Base Camp, trekking wise, nothing is tedious, but ever-changing mountain weather and high altitude can make this trek more difficult. So, we encourage you to go through a thorough health check to ensure that your body can convert oxygen efficiently in high altitudes. Our advice would be to do some short hikes in your homeland before starting a feast of trekking to EBC. Hit gyms, walk and let the thighs feel the burn. As there are plenty of uphill treks, your muscle memory will benefit. As we gain more altitude, the pace slows naturally and exhaustion heats. So, please follow safe walking distance, drink and sleep well and if you are not feeling well, discontinue; we are there to help you.
