Ama Yangri is at 3771m  and to reach here the trail passes a beautiful forest of rhododendron, pine, and oak. On the full moon day of March during the Nepali month of Chaitra, Hyolmos from different parts around the area gather together to do rituals and pay homage to the deity Ama Yangri. The ritual on this day includes climbing the summit before daybreak and watching the sunrise. Itinerary Overview

On your first day of the itinerary, you arrive here in Kathmandu and drive to Bhaktapur, an ancient artistic town. We will drive to Namobuddha and stay overnight on the second day. On day third of our trek, we will drive to Timbu(1580m) from Namobudda and stay overnight. Then on the fifth day of the trek, we will trek to Tarkeghyang(2600m) from Timbu which is 06 hours trek. We will reach Shermathang(2621m), Ama Yangri on the sixth day of the trek which is 05 hours trek. Then on day seven, we will trek back and drive to Kathmandu. On day eight, we will do Kathmandu Sightseeing and host a farewell dinner in Kathmandu. Day 09 is the departure day. Ama Yangri Trek is not a difficult trek at all.

Difficulty

This trek is a medium-hard trek as the route to the peak is difficult being near vertical. The trail is slippery too. But beyond these, the trail is smooth and is nice to get an experience of. You need to carry drinking water and dry fruits and nice good grip shoes are advisable. If you are non-Nepali, then some additional permits are required to enter this area.

Permits for Ama Yangri Trek

You will be needing a Trekking Information Management System (TIMS) permit and Langtang National Park entrance which will cost you NRS 3000 per person.  October, November, May, and April is the most ideal time to engage in this satisfying Ama Yangri Trek of Raconteur Adventure.

Day 01

Arrival to Kathmandu and transfer to Bhaktapur

Day one involves your arrival in Kathmandu. As you come out of the airport, Raconteur Adventure welcomes you and helps you cope with the cultural shock you may encounter as you enter the streets of Kathmandu. From Kathmandu, we will drive to Bhaktapur. This amazing ancient town rewards you with delicious Newari cuisine, amazing old arts, temples, palaces, and homes made in traditional way. Day 02

Drive Namobuddha from Bhaktapur

This day two of Ama Yangri trek, you will see high northern mountains as we drive east to Namobuddha. Namobuddha is one of the holiest sites for Buddhists in Nepal. We stop at Dhulikhel for lunch, Dhulikhel also offers a beautiful view of the mountains. Then, we continue to Namobuddha from Dhulikhel to stay overnight in cozy hotels or local homestay. At Namobuddha we will have an evening dinner with monks and see different ceremonies. We will reach Namobuddha after driving for 03 hours.

Day 03

Drive to Timbu (1580m.)

We will start with a delicious breakfast at Namobuddha and then drive to Timbu. On the way, we make stops, have lunch in Gyaltum village. From the village, we continue our drive to Timbu the village for an overnight stay and dinner. The driving time for this day is 04 hours.

Trek to Tarkeghyang (2600m) from Timbu, 05 hours trek

From day four, our trek commences from Timbu to Tarkeghyang. The trail ascends crossing a small hydropower project, terraces, human settlements, and forests we will reach Tarkeghyang after trekking for 05 hours. Tarkeghyang village is this amazing Sherpa village and is the settlement of Hyolmo tribe. Accommodation and dinner at Tarkeghyang.

Day 05

Trek to Ama Yangri Peak (3771m) 06 hours trek

Day five is the most important day of this trek as you will climb Ama yangri peak (3771m). But if you prefer rather not to climb then you can take walk in and around the amazing village of Tarkeghyang. After you return back conquering the summit, we gather in the teahouse in the evening to share experience of the day. Ama Yangri Peak serves 360° views of mountains like Annapurna, Langtang, Manaslu, and even Everest. Numbers of a peak above the altitude of 8000m are seen from this peak. Overnight at Tarkeghyang.

Trek to Shermathang (2621m), 05 hours

On day sixth of our trek, we will reach Shermathang from Tarkeghyang. The trekking trail today is easier with less up and down. You will pass through beautiful forests and streams. Then we will have lunch at Ghangyul(2770m), an amazing village. Then, our journey continues to reach Sherpa village of Shermathang. Shermathang is an amazing place to indulge in the magnificent view of Jugal Himal. We will talk to the locals, roam around the village here. Evening dinner and stay in Shermathang.

Drive to Kathmandu

After breakfast at Shermathang, we will drive to Kathmandu. Lunch will be on the way. After reaching Kathmandu, we will check in at one of the heritage hotels in downtown Kathmandu and enjoy the night with nice food and a comfortable bed. You can swim in the pool as well.

Kathmandu Sightseeing

This is the second last day of the trek and it involves some sightseeing of Kathmandu. We will do sightseeing in Patan after breakfast, come back to Boudhanath, and end the day at the bank of Pashupatinath. Overnight at Kathmandu. You can go to the Garden of Dream and enjoy or revisit the nightlife at Thamel. We will host farewell at a cultural restaurant or at upstairs Jazz at Lazimpat.
