Jamacho Speciality

Lying at the north of the capital, Kathmandu, Jamacho stands at an altitude of 2130m above sea level. A nice view, cool breeze of air topped with Mountain View and a lullaby of birds, is what makes Jamacho a perfect meditative spot. Besides re-energizing your brain from meditation, you can involve in activities like Photography, sightseeing, bird watching standing here in Jamacho peak. Jamacho is not all natures’ wonderland. But Jamacho actually carries deep religious value to it, especially for Buddhism followers. Jamacho hill is a small Buddhist shrine. A small monastery of Padmasambhava lies on this hill.

Adding to religious significance, the hill is the home to temples of Nagraj (king of all snakes) and Nagrani(Queen of all snakes). This temple lies at the Nagaidada, which is a short hike down the hill. And on the east side, there are statue rows of Gods and Goddesses symbolizing Buddhism. Actual hiking is just 3-4 hours uphill and 2-3 hours downhill. This all depends on well how to fit you are.

Upon getting the permit, you will hike uphill for 2-3 hours, almost 5 km, until Jamacho Peak. You will spend some time in the peak, doing some meditation, practising some yoga poses, taking photographs, hiking back to the check post, and walking to Balaju Bypass. Then from there, you will be at the original destination.

What are the things I cannot carry in this hike?

This region where we are hiking is inside the national park. So, creating fire and music is prohibited. You cannot take instruments like speakers inside. Even carrying a knife, matchboxes, lighters are not permitted. You can have packed lunch, water, and non-alcoholic drinks.
