Required Permits and other Amenities

There are special permits needed for non Nepali citizens in this Upper Mustang Tour for Indians with Muktinath Temple of Raconteur Adventure. You need special permit to enter the area of Mustang. Mustang was one of the most restricted regions of Nepal in the past.

Trekking in the region costs US$500 per person for ten days. Please be noted that this permit is valid for ten days, not ten nights. If you wish to stay for more than ten days, it will cost you $50 per day per person. Travelling solo here in Upper Mustang is not allowed. If you are single and want to savor Upper Mustang beauty, please let us know; we can manage groups for you. We require your original passport copy and photographs to enter this restricted region.

 

Best Season for travelling Upper Mustang from India

Most travelling enthusiasts usually travel to Upper Mustang during early winter so that snow and cold can be avoided. However, the ideal time for trekking here is from Late March until early November. Tour to Upper Mustang does not take you to higher altitudes. Even altitude gain is comparatively low, hitting the road at the right time is crucial as cold, dust and unrelenting afternoon winds could be troublesome.

▶ Day 01 – Arrival at Kathmandu, the Tribhuwan International Airport

Raconteur Adventure’s representative welcomes you and transfers you to the hotel from the airport. You can roam around the Thamel area in the evening and go shopping for the tour. Or, you can spend time on your own.

▶ Day 02 – Kathmandu Sightseeing and tour preparation

We get ready for viewing and experiencing different facets of Kathmandu.  Depending on group size, you will be picked up in a private vehicle and Kathmandu sightseeing of other sites, including Pashupatinath, in the evening. We will set our journey to excellent UNESCO sites in the daytime, including Boudhanath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, and Patan Durbar Square. After the sightseeing experience, we will get back to Hotel for overnight stay.

 

▶ Day 03 – Drive to Pokhara via private vehicles depending on group size | 06 Hours | 200Km

Upon having breakfast at the hotel, we will pick you up in a private vehicle to take you to Pokhara. As we might already know, Pokhara is one of the most beautiful cities in Nepal. The ride is all fulfilling itself as we drive past through different villages of Nepal, offering you a view full of exciting rivers, greeneries, towns, farms and fantastic scenery of mountains. You can even fly to Pokhara from Kathmandu, taking daily flights.  Pokhara is the most visited place in Nepal. The city of Pokhara offers a stunning view of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Macchapucchre, five peaks of Annapurna’s and other mountains.

Pokhara is also the city of lakes as there lies large beautiful lakes like Fewa, Begnas and Rupa. Besides the abundance of natural beauty Pokhara has, there is much artificial beauty to allure you. Some most visited human made attraction includes World Peace Pagoda, Davis fall, Gupteshwor Mahadev, and others. Nightlife with clubs, discos and restaurants running live music with international delicacies is here in Pokhara for you to enjoy. ▶ Day 04 – Drive Pokhara to Beni to Tatopani(2600m) | 6/7 Hours on 4WD Jeep | 110 KM

Upon having breakfast at the hotel in Pokhara, we commence our journey to Mustang. In the initial phase of our drive, we head west to Beni town on the blacktopped road. Then we follow the Kali Gandaki River. From Beni, the road is only graveled. On this journey, we will stop by to see the world’s deepest gorge, the Kaligandaki gorge. This gorge is formed between Mega Mountains, the Dhaulagiri (8,167m), and Annapurna (8091m) mountain. Our destination for the day is Tatopani, a town where you can relax in a natural hot spring believed to have the raw power to heal skin-related diseases. And there are plenty of local activities to get you involved and excited here in Tatopani.

 

▶ Day 05 – Drive from Tatopani to Kagbeni(2900m) and visit the sacred Muktinath Temple | 5/6 Hours | 95 Km

After breakfast, we drive, passing through villages of Kalopani, Ghasa. This side of Nepal is famous for apple production and apple products. Marpha is the village where locals grow apples and make pies, dried apples, and even apple wine. We pass Marpha, Jomsom local market. Then we cross Kagbeni village to reach Muktinath Temple. Muktinath temple is one of the most sacred sites for Hindus and Buddhists, where Lord Vishnu is celebrated. Take a shower in 108 holy stone taps dedicated to Lord Vishnu to cleanse sin and let go of your sorrows.

Jal Devi is another supernatural attraction of Muktinath temple, where you get to see non stop burning fire caused by natural gas. In addition, there is a Buddhist Monastery in Jharkot for you to enjoy a nice view of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and Tukuche Peak. After exploring Muktinath and its setting, we will drive back to Kagbeni for an Overnight stay.

 

▶ Day 06- Official formalities of Permits and drive to Ghami Village (3520m) via Syangboche Pass(4200m) | 06 Hours | 32 KM

After having breakfast, we set our journey to Kagbeni Monastery and Buddhist School. Before leaving Kagbeni, we will check in with special permits for Upper Mustang in the local office. Then the journey continues crossing the Kali Gandaki river near Chhusang village via Jeep. We then climb to Chella Village, Samar village, Syangboche village, Chilling until we arrive at Ghami village.

On this very day, you will meet beautiful landscapes in the daylight visible from Syangboche and other places in our journey. As this is a private trip, you can stop wherever you feel like stopping for breaks and photographs, but remember you have a destination to reach for the day. You will see local farmers’ houses with Yak and houses Caravan, Tibetan culture and activities of locals during the day.

 

▶ Day 07 – Drive to Lo Monthang (3840m)  | 03 Hours | 17 KM

On day seven of the tour, you will be visiting a highlighting destination, Lo Monthang. During this day, we will be making our way to various monasteries on the site.  We visit Mustang Lo Gager Ghar Gompa monastery, Charanag Monastery, Lo-Monthang city, Jampa Gompa, an old monastery(15th century) and is known as God’s house too. Chodey Gompa is another attraction you will be visiting on this trip. Chodey Gompa now highlights Lo- Monthang with Monastic Museum to see too. In this tour process, you will encounter Yaks and cattle caravans and indulge in the natural serenity of beautiful mountains and landscapes from passes. Other attraction of the place involves a Buddhist school, old king’s palaces, and local activities.

 

▶ Day 08 – Exploration day in Lo-Monthang and Chhosar

Upon having breakfast, we start exploring Namgyal Gompa. We will explore the Sky caves of Chhosar and Shija Jhong cave of Mustang, which is 3000 years old. This 3000-year-old cave is the subject of excavation by history lovers and archaeologists from all around the world.  Several other caves near Chhosar have been used for meditation, burial, and living. We travel back to the hotel for an overnight stay upon sightseeing at the site.

 

▶ Day 09- Drive back to Jomsom (2743m) | 6/7 hours | 50 km

We drive to Jomsom crossing different villages, the Kalingandaki river, stupas, and monasteries until reaching Jomsom. We will explore the Jomsom market in the evening time.

 

▶ Day 10 – Fly back from Jomsom to Pokhara and Pokhara Sightseeing.

In the early morning, we will take a flight back to Pokhara, and after you settle in the hotel at Pokhara, we will manage a short sightseeing tour of Pokhara in the evening. We again return to the hotel for an overnight stay.

 

▶ Day 11 –Drive/Fly back to Kathmandu.

As our tour ends, you might drive/fly back to Kathmandu. The drive time is approx.. 06 hours and flight time is 25 minutes.

 

▶ Day 12- Farewell and Final Departure

Nepal is heaven for nature lovers with a rich collection of three main climatic conditions bringing all the beauty of different vegetation. Rich Flora and Fauna in Nepal stand at the top of its game in both variation and richness it gets to the overall flora and fauna scene of the world. There are some fantastic facts to keep you in awe, and they are;

Some Green and wild facts of Nepal;

Tropical Zone (up to 1000m)

The extensive lowland of Terai and the lower hill will experience the tropical zone here in Nepal. This makes the region hot, with the average temperature in summer 35° and winter temperature averages @ 24°. In the low zones, the flora of Sal, Simal, Asna, Pinus Rosburghi allures you. Peacock, jungle fowl, black partridge & other migrating birds like to fly and hide in the region’s sky. For all wildlife lovers, tigers (Bagh), gaurs, deer (Jarayo), leopards (Chituwa), rhinos (Gaida), buffaloes(Bhaisi) and other creatures into the wild. You can even meet crocodiles and Genetic Dolphins in rivers here.

Subtropical Zone (1100m-2400m)

The subtropical zone goes up to the Mahabharat range in Nepal. This zone awes any with several green hills, hillocks, rivers, and an excellent wildlife experience. The subtropical zone covers significant rivers as Nepal’s longest and largest river flows. Some largest rivers are Karnali, Saptakoshi, and Narayani. And there is, of course, fantastic flora and the subtropical zone has stunning oak, rhododendron and orchids forests. And Ghoral, Bear, Deer and wild boar are several species in this zone.

Temperature Zone (2500m-4000m)

The temperature zone is where you start feeling cold as you reach the beginning height of the world’s highest mountains. There are different plant species which includes Oaks, Pines. And in coniferous forests, rhododendron, bamboo and even maples are found. Some of the exoticness of mother nature is here in this zone with a surprising list of Red Panda, Himalayan Black Bear, Himalayan Tahr, Serow, Ghoral Barking Deer, and Wild bear few here. There are many bird species in Nepal, and out of them, Danfhe, the national bird of Nepal, is all blissful to watch and observe.

Subalpine and Alpine Zone (more than 4000m)

The zone that exceeds the 4000m mark is the alpine zone. And in this mind-boggling altitude, too, we will see rhododendron, juniper scrub, woody vegetation and other peculiar flora. Animals, namely snow-leopard, musk deer, tahr, mouse hare, Himalayan marmots, and sheep, are seen in this area. Snowcock, snow partridge, dippers like bird flies in the sky of this zone.

So, yes, Nepal is ultimately rich in its flora and fauna offering.
