Dream Trek to Annapurna Base Camp

Annapurna Base Camp trek was one of my bucket list treks, and i was thinking of going for a trek Annapurna Base Camp Trek. My dream trek Annapurna Base Camp came into reality, I set everything in my mind to go trekking with my family.

In 2018 September, I was home alone. My mom and dad went to London for six months to meet my brother in Bristol City, London. There was no one at home, so I planned to put luck at home and want to go for a ride to Sikkim for Nepal Rider Meets(NRM) event. This is an event hosted by Friends Of Royal Enfield (FORE). NRM is a big motorcycle event. My first bike ride with our club Kathmandu International Motorcycle Club, was my life. It is a motorcycle club in azimuth. Chhedup Bozman Dai is the president of our club. An excellent person with a good heart. Learn many things from him. He is a pioneer rider as well.  He is our dearest dai. He is the owner of Jazz Upstairs Lazimpath. His restaurant has delicious food, especially Chicken Santa and mouth-watering MOMO etc. They have a musical event, especially JAZZ MUSIC. I usually went to jazz for food and music when I was free, and I am a foody person. My mom and dad were worried about me because I was alone. Dad called me, and I told him about the motorcycle trip to Sikkim. He told me not to stay home when they returned, only to go anyway I wanted. Then I thought, and I decided to stay home again. My cousin’s sister and cousin’s brother had a plan for the Annapurna Base Camp trek. They talked to me and said let’s go for a trip again. I spoke to my parents, and they said no. Finally, after a hard struggle, my mama house grandmother came to my house, and I was allowed to go for this adventure trekking with my family. Finally, I think a lot about my big brother Suwash Karki who supported me and talked to my parents for permission to go on this trek. On September 25, 2018, I packed my bag and went to my bed for sleep, and I was a little excited about the tour.

The trip was for the 8Night/9Day trek to Annapurna Base Camp. Early morning I woke up and called my brother. He said to come to me to pick me up at my home town Mulpani, Pipal Bot at 5 AM morning. We have a 4WH JEEP for the trip. We packed our bag at the roof of the jeep. We had a cup of tea at  Janak dai tea shop. Finally, around 6 AM, we start our drive from Mulpani, Kathmandu. Day first, we had breakfast at Malekhu with family. We ate sale roti, fry fish, gram, black tea and roti. After breakfast, we drive to Pokhara. My cousin’s sisters were very excited about the trek, and they started to sing songs. The cool air refreshed everyone inside the jeep. The drive was perfect and skilful because he drove very carefully. After three hours’ drive, we reached the paradise city Pokhara. We were hungry, and we had dhal Bhat at thakali restaurant. We had planned to stay in Ghandruk so we were little hurry and we bought fruits and some medical medicines for the trek.

As we know that Pokhara is a hub for Annapurna Circuit Trek. All the treks end and start from paradise city Pokhara. Pokhara is situated at an altitude of approximately 1300m. It has beautiful Phewa lake, begnash lake, rupakot lake, paragliding spot called Sarangkot, peace stupa and a Pumdikot with a giant statue of Lord Shiva god. In Pokhara, many tourists go for nightlife, music, food and adventure activities like aura flight and paragliding. Pokhara is a beautiful, clean and tourist city. We can do whole day boating in Phewa lake.

Day One

After one and half hours drive from Pokhara, we reached Naya Pool, the end and starting point of Annapurna Circuit Trek. Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP) A foreigner has to pay ACAP permit for trekking. The road from Nayapool to Ghandruk Bajar is pitch and off-road. There was a river on our right side and a hill on our left. Slowly we were driving uphill. After one and half hours of drive, we finally reached a Gurung village, Ghandruk. We stay in Hotel Rock & Mud, which is situated 1o minutes from Ghandruk bus station. The Hotel Rock & Mud provides three start facilities with room service and local organic food to the guest. They have a room facing mountains like Annapurna, Himchuli and Fishtail. A guest can see mind-blowing vies of the Himalayas from their pillow. The hotel owner is Mrs Lachhin Gurung, humble, calm and helpful. He cares for his clients. After a good talk with the hotel owner, we have a campfire, and a hotel chef offers local organic dinner. After dinner, we danced and sang songs, and we went to bed for sleep because we were tired of driving.

Day Two

The second-day early morning at 6 AM, we wake up and get ready for the trek to Annapurna Base Camp 4130m. We had a local Gurung breakfast at the hotel, and the hotel owner was blessed with good luck for our trip. We were a total of seven members of the family for the trek and our dijju best friend’s sister, who was a little fancy and fashionable and acting. Superwash Kark dai, Pramila Karki value, Shreesti Karki sister, Anup Parajuli brother, Aupa Parauli sister, Indira Karki dijju and me my self travelling Maddy Thapa. Our group was more adventurous. At 7 AM, we check out the hotel and head towards Jhinu for the trek. We walk almost one and half hours to reach Jhinu. We can see an excellent Village on our right sight, Landruk. We had a river one our right company as well. We can see a beautiful breathtaking view of Machhepuchare Peak. It is the peak till today nobody has done the summits of the mountain. It is believed that there is a god at the Machhepuchere, which is also called Fishtail Peak. We crossed a big suspension bridge. There was a queue at the bridge. It was tourist season. Many Nepali and foreigners were heading for the Annapurna Base Camp trek. At the same time, I got a chance to take pictures with some American and Brazilian friends. After crossing the bridge, there was Jhinu hot water spring. We had a hot shower at the pool. It was just a mind-blowing experience of my life at Jhinu Hot Water. My whole body relaxed, and I thought I got some extra energy for the trek. There was a long uphill trek from Jhinu to Chomrung. Chomrung is the meeting point becasue trekkers from Tadapani and trekker from Landruk and Mardil himal can reached Chomrung. After three hours of deep uphill walk, we finally reached Chhomrung hilltop and breath for a while and had a drink of water and a fresh breath of air with a fantastic mountains view of Annapurna, Himchuli and Fishtail peak. We had a delicious local lunch at the hotel. We planned to stay at upper Sinuwa from Chhomrung. We could see Upper Sinuwa, but it was pretty far for us to trek. We started the downhill trek at the same time one of my sister’s best friend’s sister who was out of our family she couldn’t walk. She was not focused on her walk and wasting our team time, and I was angry. I told her if she cant goes, she could go back and rest at Pokhara, and we will be back in Kathmandu together. Still, she was too much ugly and more fashionable. Finally, in the end, my big brother arranged a horse to get back her to Jhinu, and we again headed towards Upper Sinuwa. We walked one hour downhill trek and again 2 hours uphill hike, and after getting tired, we reached our second day overnight. The Upper Sinuwa was not the best place to stay. The second night was horrible to sleep.

Day Three

On the third day, we woke up early in the morning and had breakfast, and there were other foreigners, French, Russian, Japanese, Chines who were also busy eating and getting ready for the trek to Annapurna Base Camp trek. The trails were uphill, and downhill trails of stone stairs, and some tracks were just plain and natural. I used to be happy when I found natural trails on my trek. There was a dense forest full of beautiful birds and butterflies. I saw colourful butterflies on the tracks. On the other side, we can see beautiful mountain ranges. The Trek was going adventurous. We walked downhill for one and a half hours and finally reached a natural place, just peace of mind, Bamboo. The name is self Bamboo. The surroundings had all Bamboo bushes, and the surrounding was just greenery. The exciting part was I met my brother Ram Adhikari. He and I had taken tour guide license training together. We had a photo together we were a French and Spanish guide he was there with his French guest. I was so hungry, we were apart, and my family members ordered a delicious rare noodles soup for lunch. We rest one hour at bamboo.  After lunch, we trek uphill for Deurali for a third day-night stay. The bamboo trails to Durali were intense with full greenery with trees and bamboo. We have a river on our right sight. It was flowing in their natural way as we know that river has its path. I was lost for a while because the natural sound of the river makes me happy, and I was lost in nature, so I liked to go for a trek. My big brother was in the front line in the trails, and I was at last. We enjoyed the trek singing sometimes and sometimes staying somewhere and dancing, which gave us some energy. After trekking hard for three hours, we finally reached a place to stay tonight at deurali. It was almost packed, but I thanked the hotel owner, who provided a standard room for our family. We rest for a while and enjoy the mountain view, nature, birds whispering sound etc.

I plan for the next day’s trek. Our dream was trekking up to Annapurna Base Camp. I heard that the Annapurna Base Camp & Machhapuchere Base Camp hotel were packed, so I planned for the next day. I talk to my big brother and family about the problems we face the next day. If we were going day and staying in Annapurna Base Camp & Machhapuchere Base Camp hotel, we would not find a room to sleep. So planned we planned to go to Annapurna Base Camp, our bucket list place, in the early morning at 4 AM to come back and stay safely in Deurali. It takes 5 hours to reach Annapurna Base Camp from Deurali. We fixed our light and stick for the next day’s early morning trek. There were other doctors’ groups, and they also wanted to join our family trip. We had dinner and went to bed for sleep.

Day Four

Day four early morning, we wake up, carry our all gear and start our trek to Annapurna Base Camp at 4 AM. I was at the front with torchlight and stuck we scared of wild beer in the trails because in the bamboo area habit of fantastic beer. My big brother was last, and I was in front of a trek almost one hour from Deurali. I saw blood on the trails, I saw blood, and I was scared of beer because I was in front of our group. After two hours uphill trek, we reached Machhapuchere Base Camp (Fishtail Mountain). I took a long breath, drank water, rested for a while, and started our walk again. While trekking from Machhapuchere Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp, you will see a fantastic view of Fishtail Peak. After a thirty-minute trek, I was the first person to reach Annapurna Base Camp, and the Annapurna mountains greeted us, and I was happy to see the mountains in my lifetime. I saw the mountains with closed eyes. The moments were just incredible. I was hungry, so I ordered rara noodles, which cost me RS 5OO. After 10 minutes, all my family members safely arrived at the Annapurna Base Camp. They were all happy, and they started to click the single selfie photo and group photo with different mountain poses. We took a family photo with the Annapurna Base Camp digital board with a background mountains view.

After having a cup of tea again, we started our trek back to Machhapuchere Base Camp; the hike us downhill until we reached Deurail, our third-night stay place. It took us almost 4 hours to get deurali from Annapurna Base Camp. We have ordered lunch at durable. After lunch, we start our trek to bamboo for our fifth day-night stay. We all were tired of trekking. There was a que in the trails. The most adventurous part was that one of our family members was lost, so my big brother finally went back to search for them after 1 hour, and he met us safely. We eat biscuits and water and head towards Bamboo. Lifetime memorable trip with family. We all trekked till 10 pm in the jungle trails, which was amazing and scary. Lighting the torchlight and mobile light, our paths looked beautiful and clear to walk. There was a small pebble that disturbed us to walk. We were trekking in a group with loud music and song so that if wild animals came near to us, they would go far listening to the voice and music. The trail was almost scary at night because we may fall in the riverside if one mistake. Finally, after five hours walk, we reached the place to stay. All hotels were packed, so we got a dirty room to sleep, eat dinner, and adjust for our fourth night.

Day Five

Day fifth, early morning, we packed our bag and started our trek from Ghandruk. We dnt not eat enough food on day four because the hotel was just worst. Me Shreesti and Aupa were in front while returning, so we found an excellent place after upper Sinuwa for delicious food to stay. We talked and planned to stay for a while and had some food so that other family members would also arrive and we could trek together. The trails were entirely downhill with stone stairs, and the view was mind-blowing mountains. After walking for almost four hours, we reached a comfortable homestay after crossing the suspension bridge from Jhinu. The homestay owner cooked delicious local organic food for us. We all were tired, so we planned for bbq as well. We light a campfire at the front space of the homestay. We were lucky to see the stars.

Day Six

Day sixth, we move to Nayapool from Jhinu. We drive almost two hours. All my family went to Muktinath, and I had already been there, so I didn’t go. After that, my solo journey to Kathmandu started. I catch a local bus from Nayapool to Pokhara. Until I reached Pokhara, I slept whole one hour during the bus journey. I met my Homie friend Saroj, who worked in Pokhara Regional Airport as Fire Fighter in Fire Department. He took me to have a momo in Pokhara. I keep my bag in his flat. After having momo, I went to Pavilions Hotel & Resort to meet my best brother Raag. His dad was GM in the resort. I got the opportunity to visit the farm. He greets me with the best view of the resort. He took me to his dad’s quarter which was just incredible. We had some coffee, and I went for a shower. The Pavilions was just a fantastic resort. The hotel vehicle drops me and raag to the lakeside. We went to the lakeside for live music and food.

Day Seven

On day seven, I woke up early morning, and I met the junior’s brother from Multani, who were also visiting Pokhara. We walked in the lakeside and had lunch with the brother. Besides that, I have known one friend, Pramod Thapa’s brother, originally from Pokhara. He gave me his bike, and I got a chance to visit the rest of the place by bike, and I went to Pokhara hydropower for a visit.

Another exciting part was that the Kathmandu Standards Motorcycle Club family all came to Chitwan for an ending the celebration. I saw it on Facebook messenger; then I plan to move to Chitwan. After having lunch, I went to Pokhara Prithivi chowk to catch the bus to Muglin. I got a truck and travelled to Damauli, and again, the truck went to Gorkha. I  got down from the truck and had some fruits. I was waiting for the bus when there came a tractor, and the driver ate the fruits, and I  asked him to give a lift to Muglin. Muglin is the diversion point to go to Kathmandu and Chitwan. The tractor driver stops the tractor at Muglin. I was waiting for a bus. Finally, a bus arrived in front of me, and the driver asked me, where are you going? Then I answer I am going to Chitwan. He gave a lift to Chitwan he didn’t charge me the money. I was waiting for a jeep that would drop me at the Sauraha. At the same time, one couple came and asked me to let him go by taxi and share the taxi fare, and I agreed. The cab drops me at the Sauraha. One of our club members in the hotel, the church, had already arrived. I met her, and we went to Sauraha to visit. After 1 hour, all the riders from the Sikkim event came to the hotel, and chunchun and I went to the hotel to greet them with a smile. We stayed at the hotel and had a lot of fun regarding the bike event.

Day Eight

Day Eight, I woke up early morning, and all riders were in a deep sleep. They were tired of riding bikes, so don’t disturb them, so I hired a cab that took me to highway Sauraha chowk. I was waiting for a bus, and lucky one empty bus stopped at me, and I asked the driver can you please give me a lift to Narayanghat. He said okay and entered the bus, and I stayed near the driver’s seat. He was so kind that he even charged me the bus fare. I got out of the bus after a one-hour drive from Sauraha to Narayanghat. Narayanghat is the east-west highway’s diversion point and meets the end of Kathmandu. I was hungry. It was almost 9 AM. I eat local breakfast at the local tea house.

After breakfast, I went to Narayanghat chowk to catch a bus to Kathmandu. Finally, I was lucky, and I got a taxi to take me to Kathmandu. On the way, the cab found other two people, and I was in the front seat. We had lunch at Malekhu, famous for fry fish and lunch. After 5 hours drive from Narayanghat, we reached Kathmandu valley. We were so lucky because there was no traffic at the Thankot checkpoint. One of my ma school’s best friends, Santosh, comes to Chapel to pick me up. After 20 minutes ride from Chapel, he drops me at my home town Mulpani sweet home. This trip was one of the most memorable trips I have ever done before. I give thanks to all the people I met during the solo travel. Travel as much as you can.

Adventure Motorcycle Bike To Ama Yangri Base Camp

In October 2020, I thought of trekking or doing a motorcycle ride to some destination. I was searching or hunting for a destination to travel to. I did more research for the trip, and I finally decided to do a motorcycle ride to one of the adventurous stops called Ama Yangri Base Camp, which is at an altitude of 3771m from where we can see a panoramic view o the mountains. I was walking in my home town, and I met my friends, and I gave brief information about the trip to my friend, and my two friends decided to do a bike ride with me. My friends arrange two bikes, one is VR HARTFORD & XR HONDA for the trip. I manage the saddlebag with all the mechanical tools for the journey.

Maddy and his friends Prabhu and Ganesh finally depart the bike ride trip on October 15 at 11:30 Ama Yangri Base Camp AM from Mulpani Kathmandu. Firstly we went to the sakhu and feul our bike. After having some water, we start our bike ride to joshing paua, a famous destination for mountain views and picnics. We rest for a while and smoke break. We were a little hungry, and we ate some fruits. Around 2 PM, again, we decided to start our ride, and the road to Melamchi was downhill off the road and dirty as well. after 1 hours ride, we reached Melamchi Bazar. On this trip, we were three people, one bike with a single ride and one with a double lift. My friend VR bike got some problems with his back wheel disk pad. We were searching for a motorcycle workshop in Melamchi. Luckily, we found excellent mechanics to find the issues happening to our bike. After a 1-hour hard struggle, he solved the problems. Finally, at 3 pm, we start our ride from Melamchi Bazar. After one hour’s ride, we reached timbu Bazar, we were hungry, and we decided to stop for a lunch break. Around 4 PM, we started our ride for Ama Yangri Base Camp again. Today we choose to stay in Tarkeghyang, which is one of the best villages in Helambu. Village own in their own with their mountain culture. The total distance from Kathmandu to Tarkeghyang is approximately 80 to 85KM by bus or motorcycle.

From Timbu, it takes 3 hours to reach Tarkeghyang. The road was fully uphill and off-road. Slowly we were riding uphill into the woods. When we were going up, we felt cold, so we started to wear warm clothes. Some parts of the road are rather bad, but most streets are in good condition. I assure you that you will enjoy the ride in the forest with vegetation of wild animals and birds. As we go up, the weather is cold, and we find a big forest on our road. It was almost 5 pm we were finished half of our ride from time. We rest for a while at Kakani dada, where we can see the beautiful view of the landscape and Melamchi Bajar. We are lucky to see a beautiful Tarkeghyang village at the stop before climbing the hills to Ama Yangri. It would be night slowly, so we lit our bike headlight on. There was a junction before reaching Tarkeghyang. We were confused about which way to go. We were hungry and exhausted. We saw a village with some light, so we moved through the left path and finally reached Tarkeghyang. We ride a total of 4 to 5 hours from Timbu. There is no fancy or facilitated hotel in Tarkeghyang. Just tea house or lodge with a cosy room with two beds. We stayed in the tea house for tonight, and we ordered dhal bhat for dinner. Before dinner, we planned to sing a song and have a campfire at the tea house premises. The owner of the tea house was so cool. We started dancing and singing a song. After one and a half hours of fun, the hotel owner invited us for dinner. We went to the dining hall for dinner. The dinner was local and deciduous. All my friends were hungry, so we ate a little more. After dinner, we went to bed for dinner. I was tired, so I could not sleep well. My two friends started snoring after 10 ten minutes. It was midnight. They didn’t stop snoring, so I decided to go to the next room, and finally, I got a good sleep.

The second-day early morning, we woke up and had breakfast. There was no hotel in Ama Yangri Base Camp. So we carry our lunch. We still ride one hour more for our trip from Tarkeghyang to Ama Yangri. We parked our bikes from parking. We had to hike for almost 3 to 4 hours to reach a beautiful spot known as Ama Yangri Base Camp. We slowly started hiking the trails was stone stairs, and somewhere, there were planned trails with pine forest with bushes. After two hours hike, we reached deurali from where we could see just little mountains. We rest for a while again. We start our walk as it climbs steeply. We stop for 15 minutes to catch our breath, drinking water. After 4 hours of trekking at 9 am, Ama Yangri finally greets our team. We are happier to see the panoramic view of the fantastic views of the Himalayas.

We met chilling guys from Bhaktapur who were busy making rizla smoke marijuana. There is a stupa at the top of Ama Yangri. The local people of Tarkeghyang are currently staying in America and collecting donations for building a stupa at the top of Ama Yangri Base Camp. There is plain land at the top helicopter can easily land. There are many prayer flags at the top. Our team were happy to see the fantastic panoramic views of the mountains.

Food and Accommodation in Everest Region

Food and Accommodation in Everest Region

Food Everest Base Camp Trek

Food and Accommodation in Everest Region choices shrink once you leave glittering and resourceful cities to trek into the mountains. But that does not mean that your comfort won’t be taken care of during different level trekking in Nepal. The stays, teahouse, or lodges are okay, nothing fancy, but it is comfortable and warm. It is well facilitated with the basic facilities. Rooms you get in mountainous regions are twin sharing rooms, and you need to use a shared bathroom. Some lodge during the trek has attached bathroom, and upgrade will cost you extra.

Beds come with mattresses and pillows, and blankets to use. Mainly, these lodges highlight a large standard dining cum living room heated during mealtime with a pot stove. The most exciting thing to look forward to in these lodges is your chance of socialising with travellers worldwide. You can read books that you carry, charge your devices and do some talking. When trekkers usually stop for rest and sleepovers, they prefer a hot shower, and hot showers in these mountains are usually gas heated and will cost you extra bucks, but they are not super expensive.

While doing Everest Trek, the Khumbu region has access to WIFI with decent speed, and you need to acquire an Everest WIFI card for a smooth internet experience. So, do make sure that background processes are turned off so that you can save that valuable MB quota in the mountains of Nepal. As you gain more altitude during the trek, a WIFI network is available between villages where you can refill your MB quota and continue with your journey. You do need to charge your devices, and charging your devices up in the mountains will cost you extra and are usually paid hourly. It is very advisable to carry a power bank. If you have opted for a more extended trekking experience, you can charge your devices with a solar panel.

Let us inform you that there are no fancy offerings here in the lodge, so television is out of the question. So, please entertain yourselves with books, mobile, kindle readers, or you can even carry board games if you are travelling in groups. You can watch movies, listen to podcasts, and do more on mobile devices.

While you are on a trek, the available time for breakfast is 8 am. To carry your load, you need to pace up for porters, so have everything packed and ready before sitting for breakfast. Lunch is usually served en route to today’s destination. Throughout the trek, depending on trekking areas, the most common food includes Dal Bhat Tarkari, Pulses, Veg curry and Boiled Rice combination. Dinner time during the tour is usually 7 pm.

Different lodge during the trek offers snacks that are averagely priced  and boiled water is charged per litre.

Please look at the following table to get a simple idea of the pricing of different amenities available in other areas of Everest. Snacks here refers to a regular snickers bar.

The only payment method is cash in Nepalese Rupees during your trek, and some even accept dollars and euros. Foreign currency exchange is possible in Namche Bazaar and Lukla.

Room choice-Single Room or upgrade

If you are looking for a room with an attached bathroom, it is very natural for you to spend extra bucks for the upgrade. And if you are not in the mood to share the room with any, please inform of your preferences to your guide in the early morning.  Porter will move early for confirming your booking in the lodge of the day.  As a nice gesture, you can pay the porter and you enjoying solo room ultimately depends on availability at last.  In Namche Bazaar, upgrading the room may cost you an extra Rs. 750, and a single room upgrade would cost you additional 1000 rupees.

What about toilets on the trekking trail?

During your trek in lower elevation, you will find clean western-style commode toilets, but as you gain altitude, long drop toilets get more common, which are holes in the ground to take a dump. Toilet Paper comes in handy here in these toilets. Plus, while trekking, it is okay to use restrooms in the human settlement area to reach the day’s destination.  Don’t hide into the bushes to do your thing. Toilets have buckets to keep toilet papers that are usually burnt.

What about rubbish management on the trek?

Recycling in the mountains is not an option yet; hence heaps of garbage pollute the hills. But in the Everest region, there is a recycling unit in Namche Bazaar. Around 20,000 travelers go to Everest Base Camp each year, creating mass waste. Some are more responsible and collect the waste and dispose of them in lodges, and some don’t care and leave it on the trail.

In the tours we organize, we discourage littering on the track.  We organize socially responsible tours and treks and encourage you to carry waste and dispose of it in an appropriate place or take it back to Kathmandu. On average, one person generates less than 1 Kg of waste from wrappers and other materials during the trek. So, it is not tedious to carry the waste back to the city and dispose of it.

Food choice during the tour in Nepal

In Nepal, what is expected are the fresh food you get during the trek. An essential staple here of every Nepalese is Dal, Bhat and Tarkari, which is lentil soup, stewed veggies, mostly potatoes or meat and boiled rice. You can have chilli sauce and even order the Sherpa Stew, which is made of beef, potatoes and vegetables in a rich sauce and served with rice. Every lodge has this important Dal Bhat meal with a choice of western meals.

Expect the following items in your meal;

Breakfast – Omelets, toasted bread, Tibetan bread, Eggs both fried and boiled, pancakes, muesli, porridge, tea, coffee, chocolates.

Lunch/Dinner- Soups (garlic, mushroom, tomato, vegetable etc.), Fried rice (veg), Dal Bhat, Curry with or without rice, noodles available with mix fried, veg, egg and cheese, Veg or Meat MO: MO(fried or boiled chopper pasties), pizza of different types, chips, water buffalo and sometimes yak steak, and some even some Italian delicacies such as Lasagna.

You also get some choice in the dessert section of the menu, and the items we will see in the menu in Everest region trekking is rice pudding, apple pie, snickers pie, chocolate cake and even fruit cocktail.

Raconteur Adventure will provide three meals a day with the food served as your choice and one hot drink per meal. And if you want to add more, the average price is Rs 150 per cup of tea, coffee, hot lemon and will cost you Nrs. 1500 for a flask of hot drinks. If you wish to have a beer, one can is 600- 800 Rs.

But in Kathmandu, the food is more expensive as Overhead and choice increase.

Nrs. 600 – Breakfast in Hotel at Thamel

A meal in town – Nrs 1200/-

Mineral water, 1 Litre-  Nrs 150 in hotels and Nrs 25 in local shops

Soft drinks/beer – Nrs 350 or more in the hotels.

Drinking water facility during the trek in Nepal

In cities, normal mineral water is Nrs 25, but up in the mountains, as everything has to be carried, the cost of all amenities goes up.

While you are in the mountainous region in the trek, you can fill up the boiled water or even tap water. River water is a no as it is full of glacial silt and could  be contaminated with animal urine and even toilet waste.

On the other hand, tap water in lodges is piped from high up rivers and clean glaciers, making it safe to drink with little treatment.

You can purify the water with the following methods:

Iodine drops, 03  per litre, available in Kathmandu, locally known as Lugols solution

Flavour- Tang Powder

Chlorine-based tablets

Steripen, which uses UV  to kill the bacteria but is fragile to carry

Aqyaprove is a water purification tablet that is light and has no aftertaste.

Other trekking regions in Nepal

Nepal is the home of trekking paradise. The Himalayan range on the northern side speaks tall and the highest mountains in the world. There are more than five trekking regions in Nepal, out of which Everest is more heard.  Everest Base Camp Trek is in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Nepal’s other most popular trekking region, the Annapurna Circuit, like Everest Base Camp Trek, is facilitated with friendly lodges. The waste management system is not that advanced as rubbish is kept in large pits and burnt.

In the Annapurna region, you can do more remote treks like Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek, Upper Mustang Trek and Manaslu Circuit Trek. In these treks, you will see far fewer people, and the facilities get more basic with long-drop toilets in the lodge.

Most importantly, the environment you are visiting is fragile and needs longing protection works. So, please minimize the rubbish and carry possible garbage in your bag.

For trekking experiences near Kathmandu, Langtang Valley Trek, Ama Yangri Trek are some famous trekking here in the Langtang region. Food and accommodation during the trek in the Langtang region are also essential, with no waste management system.

I and my friend planned Annapurna Circuit Trek, Manang.  Before we kicked off our shoes and started this trek, we gathered at the top of the hill to research Manang trek with a lonely planet book and trekking map. We made 2 weeks itinerary for the trip. The date of  October 2019 was finalized for the trek. We planned that we will hit the rough terrains of Annapurna after celebrating our main Hindu festival, Dashain. On 2019 October 14, we were on a taxi heading to the new bus park to catch Toyota Hiace Vehicle to Besisahar.  8:15 AM was the time when the vehicle started in Kathmandu to Besisahar. Besi Sahar is a gateway to the Annapurna circuit trek. Another traveler in the vehicle was my friend, and I enjoyed his company. We sang songs, made laughs, revisited some memories and talked about travel, exploration and life. We took a lunch break in Mugling at around 11:15 AM. We ate Nepali traditional local food dhal, bhat and tarkari(Steamed Rice, Pulse soup and mixed veggies. After 15 minutes of rest, we continued the drive to Besisahar. We were a little tired, and we fell asleep for an hour in the vehicle itself. We reached Besi Sahar at around 03:00 PM. Upon reaching Besisahar, we had a cup of tea and some biscuits. After a short food break,  I stood and went to find a nice condition 4WD vehicle with a good driver. Luckily I found one, then we put all our belongings in the vehicle and then started the drive to Chame, which was the second drive for the day, but was short and full of off-road adventure experiences.

From Besisahar, our second trip to Chame started which was entirely off-road in a 4WD Mahindra Bolero. We crossed our country’s first underground tunnel road through our vehicle. Our driver was so young and energetic that he played a Nepali pop song. The route was off-road and bumpy and accompanying was the Marshyangdhi river on our left side, flowing very fast with a high current. We reached Chame at 9:30 Pm. We were exhausted and hungry too. The local guesthouse served delicious local food. The hotel staffs were so humble. They lit a campfire for us because it was cold. After the campfire, we went to bed to sleep. The next day we planned to trek to Upper Pisang.

The following day, we had breakfast and packed our bags. We were excited. At 8:00 AM, our trek from Chame starts. There were many foreigners on the trails for trekking.  We rested for a while, and we smoked Manang purple haze, were high and were trekking in some amazing terrains of Nepal. After 3 hours hike; we found a big apple farm in Brathang. They served fresh apple juice, breakfast and apples to us. It was Nepal’s first big government run apple farm. We had fresh juice, fresh apple and some baked items. After resting again, we continued our trek carrying our back packs. I was walking ahead, and became lucky as nice view of big curve mountains unraveled in front of me. I said to myself that Rock climbing is possible here. We snapped some photos, crossed a suspension bridge and took some more pictures. After crossing suspension bridge,  a slight uphill followed. As this part of  the journey continues, we passed through pine forest. After a three-hour walk, we reached lower Pisang and had a delicious local lunch in the guest house. We rested for a while, played music, made jokes and rock danced. We talked, and  made some basic plans for trekking ahead to Upper Pisang.

Today was the day to get to beautiful Upper Pisang. Upper Pisang is a beautiful site offering a fantastic view of Gangapurna peak(7445m), Annapurna(8091m), Himalchuli(7893m) and many more mountains. We went sightseeing in the upper Pisang monasteries and the village. We ate local food with delicious barbecue at the local tea house. We campfired for a while to warm ourselves because the temperature was freezing. We were exhausted, and we went to bed early. Early morning, we woke up, had our breakfast, packed our bag, and got ready for Manang. Finally, we started our Manang valley walk at 8:OOAM. We passed  through mind-blowing trails and pine forests with clear blue sky, savored breathtaking view of mountains on our left side. We walked through a suspension bridge, and we hiked almost 2 hours uphill to reach Ghyaru which is small community village. We ate some food, and our heads rested in Ghyaru Gumba. On our front view, there was mind-blowing views of mountains. After 30 minutes break , we started walking again. We continued on the mountain ridge track, which was incredible. There were a lot of yaks, horses and other animals in Nagual here. We stopped for lunch in Nagual. We met with a meeting point called Tangla pass on route to Manang valley. Tanga pass starts from Dharapani and ends ta Nagwal. We walked for two hours and finally reached Nagual. We ate delicious local lunch, which is of course Dal Rice and Curry. There is popular saying among travelers in Nepal, which is Dal Bhat Power, 24 hour.  We found a plant of marijuana purple, which looked so lovely in the place where we had our lunch. One of my friend offered to buy some Purple Haze to hotel owner and we were more than happy to find that, they accepted our offer.

We again continued our hike to Manang valley. After walking two hours from Nagual, we finally saw the humid airport from hill tops. We were excited to see beautiful Manang valley and Junji Bara village from the top of the mountain. My friend wanted to smoke some weed, so we decided to make blunt and stay for a while at the edge of the hills to dissolve in beauty of amazing landscapes and mountains.  Even though we were tired, we planned to walk non stop until we get to Munji Village, Braga. We stayed in Munji lodge with campfire giving much needed warm company in chilling weather.  As this day ended, we planned for next day’s hike to Shreekharka. We were starving, so all of our friends ate dinner. We were very excited because we found the next group in our hotel. Next was our acclimation day for our group, so we decided to walk to the ice lake, which is at 4500m above the sea level. We packed our lunch and headed towards ice lake trails. I was suffering from altitude sickness because, as compared to my friend, I walked a little faster. I strolled, and my friend helped me, and I finally reached the ice lake. From the ice lake top, we saw amazing view of Manang valley and the trails of  Tilicho lake. We were lucky because we saw a shadow of the Annapurna peak in the ice lake, which looked out of this world. Slowly we walked down because I was suffering from altitude sickness. As I was walking down, I saw recovering. We stayed in Munji lodge and had some food.

Next day, we woke up early, and Mukhiya dai, the owner of Munji Lodge, offered blessing of mountains. Mukhiya dai’s hotel was so lovely and excellent. The hotel has a big apple farm, and we can all enjoy amazing view of mountains and barren landscapes.. Prakash dai(brother) was a lovely person and made delicious food in Munji lodge.

I was aware during the walk because I was suffering from altitude sickness. I recovered and strolled as altitude got lower. We saw an old Braga village and an old stupa and Gumba on the way to Manang. We walked for 45 minutes and reached Manang valley.  After walking for 1 hour, we found a diversion point from where trails of Tilicho and the world-famous Thorong La Pass would divide. We took left as our destination was Tilicho Lake, which is the highest lake in the world.  After one hour uphill hike, we reached hill top to see a beautiful view of Annapurna lake. Again we rested for a while, and my friend again wanted to smoke weed, get high, and start our hike to Shreekharka. We again did some uphill hike on this journey to Shreekharka. After two hours hike, we reached Shreekharka. We had some food here , got fresh and again started the hike to reach Manang. On route,  we saw herd of blue sheep which ran away upon seeing us. Again we came back to the hotel on the way; we met some sisters from Kathmandu who were going to Tilicho lake. They were students of Kathmandu school of law. We played cards with them, sang songs, and enjoyed campfire for a while, We made ourselves warm and went to bed. I didn’t slept the whole night as the weather was getting worse. One of our friends went back to Manang. My friend encouraged me, and let’s go; I will help you and support you. Finally, the time has come to departure for Stilicho base camp. We had breakfast and started our hike to Stilicho base camp.

We passed through a suspension bridge, and we found a landslide area. The landslide area was too much dangerous. One mistake, life was gone. Small stones fall from the top of slide hills with air. Hazardous trails. There was quiet in the landslide trails because September and October its trekking season in Nepal. Many local and international tourists visit Stilicho lake and Annapurna circuit trek, a world-famous pass called a through the pass. In front, there was a person with regular shoes. He slept in the trails, and I got scared even though my shoes were with an excellent grip. Slowly I walk into the landslide area. Meet many foreigners in the landslide area; we click photos with them. Finally, walking 5 hours from shreekharka, we reached Stilicho base camp. All the hotels were packed, but we were lucky and found one room. We ate and went to bed. In the dining hall, many people are sleeping in the group. Dreaming of Stilicho lake, I sleep in—the early morning at 4:00 AM. My friend and I are getting ready for Stilicho lake, which will be more adventure because I decided to ride a horse to Stilicho lake. One of our friends hiked to Stilicho lake. In my life, I have ridden horses for the first time, which was more adventure. My and my friend’s names were crisp and sere. We ride horses and start our trip to Stilicho lake. On our way, we saw Khansari peak, Stilicho peak, etc. After two to three hours, we finally saw our dream place, Stilicho, with beautiful blue water. Tilicho is the world’s highest lake at an altitude of 4900m.

My friend and I had a cup of tea and enjoyed the view of Stilicho lakes, which was worth it. Slowly we walk downhill to Stilicho bae camp. We had a  delicious lunch at base camp. We rested for a while and packed our bags. Our overnight was Manang valley, so we started our trek. On the way to manage in the landslide area, I got altitude sickness, and I was tired, but I never lost hope. I slowly walked and finally reached heaven on hearth village manage village overnight. We plan for a nice party at munji lodge. Our master chef, Prakash dai, cooked delicious food for my friend’s party, and we stayed one more day in Manang valley. We went to a lovely lake in Manang valley near Junji lodge the next day. We chilled in the lake area the whole day. We ate food, danced and talked to each other, and enjoyed looking at mountains and landscapes with a blue sky view. My friend played guitars and song Nepali songs. Some were busy taking photos. There was quiet in the trails of the Annapurna circuit trek. I request some tourists to take some pictures. I meet tourists from London and America. They were calm, and they also smoked marijuana with my friends. They dance with our gang, and we share our lunch with them. Finally, after 1 hour of chilling, we separated from each other; they were heading towards Manang valley and moving towards Milarepa cave which was at an altitude of 3900m. It was just opposite Munji lodge. We need to cross the marshyandgid river. The people of Manang plant vegetables in the field. We travel that part and slowly walk uphill. Finally, after two hours’ walk, there was an ancient cave. Many tourists went there and stayed there and did meditation. We can see the beautiful Manang valley. Last night at Manang manji lodge, Prakash dai cooked delicious food, and there was a campfire in the backyard garden weather was so cold. We ate dinner and went to the hotel’s roof, carrying our blanket from the room because outside was cold. We lie on the top and see the sky I can’t describe the view. It was just amazing. There were many colourful stars. I haven’t seen those many stars with my natural eyes in my lifetime. We saw many uncountable shooting stars in the sky. the sky looked gorgeous with colourful stars. The moments were just awesome one of the life the memorable night of my life, so manage valley was just a fantastic and mysterious place on earth which is also famous for the world’s highest trek Annapurna circuit trek.

Finally, we had a delicious local breakfast with mukhiya dai’s dad. He was so a kind, humble and calm person. He plans for an excellent farewell to us. We created many memories in our minds, and finally, we packed our bag and waited for a 4Wh jeep for besishsar—the mysterious manang valley trek. Manang is rich in bio-diversity. They have their own culture and celebrate our festival. The mountain’s culture is just incredible. They live in community groups. They help others in the community. The local people are kind, humble and calm. I sat in the front seat, and my friend sat in the back seat. The 4WH Mahendra bolero was best for offroad drive. Our driver was so skilful he drove very smoothly. The road was on the riverside of the wild fast-flowing river marshlands. We were tired of going, and we stayed break in Besi Sahar. We had lunch and headed toward Kathmandu.

Finally, mysterious Manang valley treks end with creating fantastic memories in our minds. I hope I will travel to manang again. So I suggest people do visit manang once in life.
